Why roofs go black and green
That black staining is usually algae; the green is moss and lichen. In a humid climate they take hold quickly, hold moisture against the roof, and over time can shorten its life.
Is pressure washing safe on a roof?
High pressure on tiles or metal roofing can crack tiles, strip protective coatings and force water under the sheets. The safer approach for most roofs is a soft wash — a low-pressure treatment that kills the growth and lets the weather rinse it, or a gentle rinse where appropriate.
