Get Your Home Ready for the Wet Season: A Pressure Washing Checklist

Up here we really only get two seasons — the dry, and the wet. Right now, in the dry, is the best window all year to get the outside of your home cleaned up before the rains set in. Once the wet season hits, mould explodes, gutters overflow and driveways turn into slip hazards. Here's a straightforward checklist to get your Far North Queensland home ready.

Why clean now, in the dry season?

Two reasons. First, everything dries properly, so treatments work better and mould stays away longer. Second, you're clearing out the build-up before months of rain make it worse. Going into the wet with clean gutters, a treated roof and mould-free walls saves you a much bigger job — and a bigger bill — later on.

The wet season prep checklist

  • Gutters and downpipes. Blocked gutters overflow in a downpour and push water where it shouldn't go. Clear them before the first big storms.
  • Roof. Moss, lichen and algae hold water against the roof. A soft wash rather than high pressure treats it safely before the wet feeds it.
  • House walls and eaves. Render and cladding go green fast once the humidity climbs. A soft wash kills the mould at the root so it stays cleaner through the season.
  • Driveways and paths. Algae and mould make concrete dangerously slippery when it's wet. A proper concrete clean takes the slip risk away.
  • Patios, pool surrounds and decks. The outdoor areas you actually use — pool pavers turn dangerously slippery, so it's worth clearing them before you're stuck inside for weeks of rain.
  • Solar panels and shade sails. Grime cuts panel output and sails collect mould — easy wins while everything's still dry.

Get it sorted before the rains

We're into the back half of the dry now, so there's still a good window to get it all done before the pre-wet rush — but with cyclone season officially starting in November, the bigger jobs like gutters and the roof are the ones to lock in first, and the closer it gets to the first storms the busier it gets.
